The 1999 growing season was marked by adequate winter rains, normal bud-break and a bit of heat during pollination. But at the heart of this gloriously rich and supple merlot lies the exceptional combination of the short crop and long, cool growing season, allowing for exceptionally balanced ripening of the fruit and full-blown delicious flavor.
Our 1999 Merlot reflects the great individual complexity of vineyards from three different parts of the Valley: Rutherford, Yountville and Carneros. For the first time in nearly a decade of producing Merlot, our 1999 blend is comprised of 100% merlot fruit. The purity of the merlot with its inherent aromatics supported by firm structure, good acidity and silky lingering finish.
Soft, with supple herb, black cherry, toasty oak and leathery notes, offering complexity, if on a small scale.
