For all you Silver Oak fans out there, this is the Merlot for you, same people, different place. Coffee, dark chocolate, and a texture that is reminiscent of one of Hugh Hefners smoking jackets.
Firmly structured and tannic, the 2001 Merlot is beefy, broad, and broodingly backward. A blend of 94.3% Merlot and 5.7% Cabernet Franc, it offers notes of grilled herbs, chocolate, freshly brewed espresso, and cherry liqueur in a medium to full-bodied, tannic, and structured format. Tasting like California?s version of a top-notch Pomerol, it should shed its tannin in 2-3 years, and drink well for 12+. Wine Advocate #150 (Dec 2003) Robert Parker 90 points Drink 2005-2015
