Winemaker Notes: Each harvest, we produce several lots of old vine Zinfandel from sites whose low-yielding vines produce very concentrated fruit. These old vines typify a sense of place - a place where wines of character, consistency and distinction originate. In 2000, a cooler summer enabled the fruit to hang longer on the vine. This slow rate of maturation produced densely flavored fruit. Our small punch-down fermenters and warm fermentation temperature helped extract a spectrum of flavors including black cherry, black currant, red raspberry and old vine Zinfandels signature spicy/briary overtones. Mild seasoning from barrel aging, anise notes and lively acids add dimension and interest. -- Ted Seghesio
