Ramon Bilbao’s Reserva 2001 has an intense, cherry-red color, with a bright rim. The nose is filled with cocoa, coffee and cigar box aromas, blending into notes of stewed fruit. Well-integrated tannins slowly lead to hints of cedar and ripe red fruit in the mouth, with a finish that brings back the toasty notes from such woods as cedar, enhanced by a light, pleasant hint of roasted chestnuts. There is a long, satisfying finish.
Winemaker’s Notes: The grapes for this blend are hand-picked at optimum ripeness, go through careful selection and fermentation, followed by 20 months’ ageing in American oak casks. The wine is then bottled and taken to the underground cellars, where it sees a further 20 months bottle ageing before release.
